Evidence-Based Guidelines for the Management of Acute Gastoenteritis in Children in Europe:

The new lower-osmolarity ORS (recommended by WHO and UNICEF) is associated with less vomiting, less stool output, lesser chance of hypernatremia, and a reduced need for intravenous infusions in comparison with standard ORS.

Directions For Use & Recommended Dose For The First Three Days:

The contents of one sachet should be dissolved in 100ml of water. For adults up to 6 sacs/day, Children 1-12 months up to 2 sacs/day (the content of the sachet can be suspended in the baby bottle and divided in 2-3 doses in the day) and Children over 1 year old up to 4 sacs/day. Then continue with a halved dosage until the full resolution of diarrhea. SMECTIDRAL should be used for not more than 10 consecutive days. If symptoms of acute diarrhea persist more than 5 days, it is recommended to consult a doctor.

Indications:

Oral treatment of acute and chronic diarrhea and the painful symptoms associated with gastrointestinal disorders.

Warnings:

The high absorption strength of diosmectite could interfere with the gastrointestinal absorption of certain drugs taken orally. Other orally administered therapies must therefore be taken far from SMECTIDRAL. SMECTIDRAL should not be taken by people who are suffering from constipation. For those who suffer from diabetes or are following a particular diet, please be aware that SMECTIDRAL contains sugars.

Storage:
